June 14, 2017

Flipping through pages of the April issue of Physics Today, we noticed a familiar name - Laura Kasian! Laura did a Q&A session about her journey from physics and astronomy, to law, and to working as a Lead Production Pipeline Technician at Sony Pictures Imageworks. She shared her experience last year during our Annual Career Night event, but now you can read about it online.

Q&A: The law-trained physicist turned movie technician. April, 2017. Physics Today. DOI:10.1063/PT.5.9093.

About Laura:

After starting at the University of Winnipeg where she completed a BSc (Hons) in Physics, Laura completed her Masters and PhD in Astronomy at UBC, studying pulsars using some of the world's largest radio telescopes under the supervision of Dr. Ingrid Stairs. Following her career in Physics and Astronomy, Laura also completed a law degree at UBC, where she explored the idea of specializing in intellectual property law. However, she has since made her way back to more technical pursuits, and is currently working at Sony Pictures Imageworks as a Lead Production Pipeline Technician, where she supports VFX artists and production teams working on feature films.
