A Research Associate position is available in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at The University of British Columbia. This position is being created to provide high-level laboratory experimentation and group support for a project on cancer immunology and microfluidics. The successful candidate will conduct interdisciplinary research in the areas of microfluidics and cancer immunology in collaboration with scientists at Deeley Research Centre of the BC Cancer Agency. S/he will develop high-throughput assays for proliferation and functional analysis of T lymphocytes to identify antigen-specific T cells with potential application in cancer immunotherapy, all within microfluidic devices constructed using multilayer soft lithography techniques. S/he will be expected to conduct all aspects of the research including interpreting all results. A successful candidate would have demonstrable (via publications, preferably) experience with cell biology, molecular biology, and microfluidics.
The successful applicant must have at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience working with microfluidics, a PhD degree in cell biology, immunology or molecular biology. Demonstrated expertise in the following are desired: fluorescence microscopy and related image analysis, working in a Class 10000 cleanroom environment, multilayer soft lithography, cell culture, FluoroSpots, basic molecular biology techniques, and high-throughput data analysis. Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work on a team project are essential.
Applicants should complete the online application form (please accept the security certificate) making sure to select Research Associate in Microfluidics FAC-2013-06 and provide the names and contact information for 3 references to be sent to: jobs(AT)phas.ubc.ca
Applicants should also include a 1-page statement of research interests in the area of microfluidics and copies of two representative publications.
