Lecturer in Physics and Astronomy - Competition FAC-2013-07

The University of British Columbia invites applications for a Lecturer position in the Department of Physics & Astronomy on the Vancouver campus. This is a 12 month position renewable up to three years and will start January 1, 2014.

Initial teaching duties would be first year teaching (PHYS 101), teaching senior statistical mechanics (PHYS 403), and contributing to UBC’s new Vantage program. The Vantage Program’s mandate is to offer a first-year curriculum to international students from domestic schools in emerging countries in preparation for entry to the second year of degree programs in Arts or Science. The mandate of the Program includes the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices.

The minimum qualification is a PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field.  Applicants are required to have demonstrated excellence in teaching, and proven ability to contribute to curriculum development, course design and other initiatives that advance the University’s ability to excel in its teaching and learning mandate. This position will be supported by and encouraged to contribute to the department’s initiatives in content-based education research.

Candidates are particularly encouraged to highlight previous experience in fostering the education of students from diverse backgrounds.
