Event Information:

Welcome to our Fall 2025 Science Slam! The greatest science communication competition...ever! This event is a partnership between the Department of Physics & Astronomy and Science Slam Canada

Science "Slammers" (aka science education presenters) will present on a science concept, law, or theory in five minutes without the use of academic slides or vocabulary, to a high school and undergraduate audience. Slammers are judged on their presentation engagement, science accuracy and creativity. We encourage the audience to rate our slammers and participate in audience trivia for prizes!

Undergraduates

Consider being a slammer! This is a practice in science communication: being able to explain a science concept to others without using jargon. Clear science communication is important for sharing what you do with the world - to engage the public, promote new discoveries, or garner financial support for your research.

High School Teachers and students

Come and be inspired by university science! Department advisors and staff will be on-site to answer questions about our programs, research and job opportunities in science. Slammers will be available after the event to chat about student life at UBC, what they're studying in the Faculty of Science and the physics, astronomy, engineering and other science courses they're taking. Graduate students in our programs (our adjudicators!) are also available to chat about future careers and directions in science, for interested students.

This event is coordinated to bring graduate and undergraduate students together to practice science communication, and to share the science our students are learning to a broader high school audience.

Enjoy the show!
