Graduate student
Science Education, UBC

Rachel Moll completed a BSc in Physics at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, graduating in 1999. Always an aspiring teacher she completed a Bachelor of Education at Queen's University to train to be a high school math and physics teacher. Before entering the teaching workforce she won an NSERC fellowship to complete a Master's degree in Physics which she undertook at UBC from 2000-2002. During her Master's work she investigated the properties of myelin and brain metabolites using Magnetic Resonance Imaging. She never left teaching behind and was involved in many types of teaching activities during her Master's including volunteering for Let's Talk Science, being a teaching aid and completing research in physics education. After completing her Master's she taught high school physics and science in North Vancouver for three years where she became interested in physics outreach programs such as Physics Olympics and science camps. She has been involved in organizing professional development conferences through the BC Association of Physics Teachers, serving as President for two years. Finally she decided to pursue her PhD in Science Educaiton at UBC after being awarded a SSHRC fellowship where she is currently in her second year, aspiring to study students' experiences in physics outreach programs and how these experiences affect motivation and attitudes towards physics.
