Jes Ford

I am a PhD Candidate at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. My research is in the field of cosmology - the study of the universe as a whole! In a nutshell, I investigate clusters of galaxies by using them as giant magnifying glasses. Thats right, I look straight through them to observe how they distort the pictures of even more distant galaxies in the background. See my research page for more about that.

In my spare time I enjoy all kinds of adventures, from hiking and skateboarding to surfing on Vancouver Island. In my previous life I was a sponsored competitive snowboarder, and fresh powder at Whistler-Blackcomb remains an important part of my work-life balance today.
