Off-campus Accommodation at UBC --- Recommended Hotels

Aside from the West Coast Suites (above, on campus) there are no hotels within walking distance of UBC.

For those bringing families who may want to stay near Stanley Park, we recommend the following "affordable" hotels:

  • The Hotel Sylvia, right on the waterfront at English Bay beach. Rooms are clean and simple, location is spectacular: right on the beach at English Bay, and a 3 minute walk to Stanley Park via the Sea Wall walkway. As of April 25, they have several rooms still, but their cheapest rooms are sold out.
  • Best Western Sands by the Sea is one block from the waterfront at English Bay. They have good advance-internet rates. 2 minute walk from the beach, 8 minute walk to Stanley Park along the Sea Wall.
  • Holiday Inn on West Broadway is a 10 minute bus ride from UBC and a 10 minute bus ride from downtown as well.
  • The Buchan Hotel, is one block from Stanley Park in the heart of the West End, on a charming old tree-lined street. It currently has a web-special on for the month of May only: Doubles with private bath for Cdn$85/night, with own sink and shared bath Cdn$65/night. An old historic, extremely basic, very clean European-style 50-room hotel, no frills, no internet (short walk to several internet cafes), parking on street, fantastic location next to Stanley Park.
  • if you want to use Priceline and bid yourself, you can take a look at some recent Vancouver winning bids at BiddingforTravel.com ... with the recession, you may be able to get a nice 3* or 4* hotel downtown for under $100/night. Pricelines prices are always in US$ (even in Canada) If you use Priceline, you only want to try for "Downtown Vancouver" or "City Hall -Downtown Vancouver South". Both these locations are an easy bus ride to campus. Others are too far.
