Alright, people, here's the deal: I made this class file around 2002, for my MSc thesis. It's a pretty bare-bones version, built on a generic thesis class. Although the sample thesis itself may prove interesting and instructive, there's a MUCH better class file available, which came out around the same time, with far more functionality. I didn't even use my own class for my thesis. It's here so people can still get at it if for some reason they still want to, but it's not supported and will not be updated. If you find something it doesn't do or doesn't do properly, I will direct you to Michael Forbes' UBCThesis class, which almost certainly does exactly what you want with a simple option in the \documentclass line, while simultaneously balancing your chequebook, cooking your dinner and designing a new, earthquake-resistant version of Hennings. You'll need his ubcthesis.cls and genthesis.cls files, and you'll want to have a look through some of the documentation. In 2004, Canadian thesis guidelines changed, requiring the removal of the signature lines and all references to them from the front page of the thesis, as well as a couple other minor changes. If you write a thesis using thesisubc.cls, FoGS will NOT accept it! You would have to edit the code that creates the title page, to make it fit the new guidelines, and I'm not going to help you do it. This constitutes a link to Michael Forbes' UBCThesis LaTeX class file, which you should use instead. The files that rest in peace here:
Note that, as of this writing (Sept. 2005), UBC's lawyer corps is not permitting the formal crest or UBC logo on the front cover of theses, as that might suggest that UBC somehow accepted the contents of the thesis. (Which, ironically enough, they did). Really quite sincerely, Darren Peets |
