Applications are Invited for the position of Post-doctoral Research Fellow

I am looking to fill an immediate opening in my group for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia Vancouver, funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research. Our research program strives to investigate deep research questions in protein misfolding and neurodegenerative disease, protein evolution, cancer research, and quantum biology. We employ theoretical methods as well as molecular modeling and simulation of proteins, RNA, and DNA. We also enjoy rich and diverse collaborations with experimental colleagues at UBC in several of the above areas of research, for which joint supervision is also possible for those interested in combining theoretical and experimental approaches. This Postdoctoral Research Fellowship will focus primarily on protein misfolding and neurodegenerative disease.

Successful candidates with experimental backgrounds will have demonstrated proficiency in either molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, DNA isolation/purification, recombinant-protein expression and purification, and gel electrophoresis-- or biophysical techniques, including fluorescence/CD spectroscopy, FRET, mass spec, atomic force microscropy, calorimetry, or NMR.   Familiarity with the Linux operating system and a coding language such as Python, Matlab, C++, or Fortran is strongly preferred.

In all cases, independence, strong motivation, and good written and oral English-communication skills are required, as is a sustained, active publication record in the above areas.

To apply for a position, please email your CV and arrange to have 3 letters of recommendation sent to: Professor Steven S. Plotkin, Department of Physics and Astronomy, 6224 Agricultural Road, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C. V6T 1Z1. steve (at) phas.ubc.ca

You will be expected to collaborate with myself, and potentially others, on novel projects at the forefront of research in the above areas, and to co-publish your results in prestigious scientific journals during your stay here. Numerous research tools will be available to you, including extensive computational resources and laboratory facilities. Several fellowship opportunities will also be available to you, for which you are encouraged to apply. As a member of a vigorous, interactive research community in a highly ranked and internationally recognized university, you will be expected to observe, at all times, the highest professional standards.
