Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Dark Matter (SuperCDMS) University of British Columbia Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in experimental dark matter searches at the University of British Columbia to work on the SuperCDMS experiment. SuperCDMS is a next-generation direct detection dark matter experiment, currently under construction, to search for low mass WIMPs through their interactions in cryogenic germanium and silicon detectors. The collaboration is building a new experimental setup at SNOLAB that will have the world's best sensitivity for low mass WIMPs, and will begin taking data in 2020. We are also involved with CUTE, a cryogenic test facility that began taking data at SNOLAB in 2019. The SuperCDMS group at UBC is in charge of producing a new data acquisition system for the SNOLAB experiment and in data analysis. We have a close relationship with and presence at the TRIUMF laboratory in Vancouver, and collaborate with SuperCDMS scientists at other institutions. The successful applicant is expected to take a leading role in the deployment and operation of the SNOLAB trigger and DAQ system, take part in detector performance and characterization tests at CUTE and SuperCDMS test facilities, and to contribute to data analysis. She or he will also interact closely with graduate students. The position is primarily based in Vancouver, but the candidate may be expected to travel to Sudbury and to SuperCDMS test facilities in the US. Applicants must have received a Ph.D. within the last five years, or be about to receive one. They should also have experience in building, analyzing data from, and operating particle, nuclear, or astroparticle physics experiments. Applicants should submit a CV and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent electronically to: Prof. Scott Oser UBC Dept. of Physics & Astronomy oser@phas.ubc.ca Review of applications will begin on Octber 1, 2019 and continue until the position is filled. The starting date is negotiable but expected to be after January 1, 2020. Salary will be competitive, and will depend on experience. The initial appointment will be for one year, but will be extended for additional years subject to budgetary confirmation and mutual agreement. UBC hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply. UBC is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from visible minority group members, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas.
