Prof. David Jones
David came to UBC from JILA/NIST in January 2004 and directs the research of this laboratory. He did his graduate work at University of Cambridge, UK and at MIT followed by post-doctoral work at JILA under Steve Cundiff and Jun Ye. Aside from Physics, David enjoys BC's wonderful backcountry skiing and climbing.

Dr. Egor Chasovskikh

Dr. Art Mills
Art arrived at UBC shortly after completing his PhD in electrical engineering at Purdue University in May 2007. His interests include precision spectroscopy and applications of femtosecond laser frequency comb technology. Outside of the lab, Art enjoys photography and outdoor adventure including backcountry skiing, cycling or just about anything in the mountains.

Rob Stead
Rob entered the PhD programme at UBC in August 2006, following a stint in the EngD Photonics programme at Heriot Watt University, where he worked on optical remote sensing. He completed his undergraduate degree at Imperial College, London, and performed his MSci thesis work in the LIDAR lab of Professor Hubert van den Bergh at EPF, Lausanne, Switzerland. His current research interests include the application of passive enhancement cavities to nonlinear optical processes and, in particular, the generation of long wavelength radiation, out to the Terahertz range, via optical rectification for use in the field of spectroscopy. Rob is an avid mountainbiker, and is currently competing in the BC provincial cup downhill series.

Matt Lam
Matt started a M.Sc. in September 2008 after completing his undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics at UBC. By day, his research interests involve the generation of extreme ultraviolet radiation via a passive enhancement cavity and its applications to physical chemistry and engineering. By night, Matt plays the piano, appearing most recently in the Mackenzie Jones Big Band and the UBC jazz ensembles, and he has lately started to explore rhythm and movement in new ways through vintage jazz dance.

TJ Hammond

Timber Jones
After interning at Summit Dogs, Timber joined the group in May 2008. Timber lends moral support around the office with games of fetch and paw holding whenever needed. When not going to work at UBC or attending to his fan club at Durante-Kreuk Timber enjoys eating white snow, backcountry skiing, chasing (snow) balls, hiking, chasing balls, hanging out with Rhumba, stealing other dog's balls, watching David and Jenn climb rocks, and chasing...balls.
