Blogging recently became a popular way of sharing thoughts and exchanging ideas. Many scientists blog about their science and the stories behind. In this seminar talk, 3 bloggers from the department will share best practices, experiences, and what you need to know to start your own blog. If you want to contribute but don't want to maintain a blog on your own, there are other opportunities within and outside of the department. The three speakers will each give a short presentation:

  • Theresa Liao will give a quick introduction about blogging - platforms, resources, and networks available for science bloggers.
  • Eric Mills will talk about pictures: why you should include them and how. The "how" will include permission and attribution, creative commons, fair use, and why you shouldn't be scared of any of this.
  • Jared Stang will discuss goals and expectations for blogging by briefly describing the evolution of his blogging endeavours. The lesson: Blogging takes time, so don't expect a ton of production (unless you're ultra-devoted).

Then we will open the session for questions.
