Title: The correct direction of the energy flux in ohmic conductors carrying time-independent currents.

Abstract: We show that the energy flux in ohmic conductors which are transporting time-independent currents is orthogonal to the usually assumed direction of the flux (which is erroneously assumed to be Poynting's vector). We illustrate the common logical error used to validate Poynting's expression by deriving the actual energy flux for a wire transporting a constant current wire. We also examine the energy flux for time-dependent spherically symmetric current flow, and a hydrodynamic model, where the error made in the electromagnetic model of current flow in a wire is even more obvious.
