Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute Postdoctoral Fellowships

The UBC Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute invites applications for highly motivated postdoctoral fellows interested in a variety of research topics related to quantum materials from the perspectives of growth, characterization, computation and theoretical description. These positions are part of rapid growth of the institute enabled by several large federal grants and matching funding from the university that will support new faculty positions, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, research associates and technical staff. SBQMI and the associated Max Planck-UBC-UTokyo Centre for Quantum Materials http://www.fkf.mpg.de/mpg-ubc offer a highly collaborative research environment with strong international connections. The SBQMI Postdoctoral Fellowships offer competitive salary support and benefits (including extended health, dental, and an employee & family assistance program) and the opportunity to work with the world-leading groups at the UBC SBQMI and their international research partners. Outstanding candidates demonstrating research excellence, and ability to collaborate and bridge research perspectives, will be considered for a top-tier award affording a greater degree of autonomy including a small discretionary research fund towards their proposed project. Interested candidates should contact principal investigators http://qmi.ubc.ca/?page_id=86 aligned with their interests to discuss potential projects.

Candidates must have obtained, or expect to complete, their doctoral degree no later than September 2018, and be able to demonstrate a solid scientific background—as evidenced by publication record, letters of recommendation, and research proposal. Evidence of teamwork, strong communication skills, and ability to supervise students will also be taken into consideration. To apply, please provide: - Brief cover letter, including the SBQMI researchers you have discussed projects with, and the names of those who will provide recommendations; - Curriculum Vitae, including full publication list; - 1 - 2 page research proposal; - 3 letters of recommendation (to be sent directly by the referees). Candidates: submit your application online at www.facultycareers.ubc.ca/27558 Referees: letters of recommendation may be emailed to jobs@qmi.ubc.ca. All materials (including reference letters) should be received by October 15, 2017 to ensure full consideration. In-person interviews with applicants who best meet our criteria will be held at the UBC Vancouver campus in mid to late November 2017.

We thank all applicants for their interest. Please note that due to the volume of applications received only candidates invited for an interview will be contacted.
