Intended Audience: 
We make our way about in the world with the conviction that by acting now we can affect the future but not the past. The business of getting to the bottom of that asymmetry has usually been considered a matter for conceptual or phenomenological or metaphysical analysis, but I will be discussing a recent attempt to understand it in another way - as a mechanical phenomenon of nature.
