RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN EXPERIMENTAL CONDENSED MATTER PHYSICS

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position within the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UBC. The research will involve the fabrication and measurement of novel devices based on topological materials. The formal supervisor of this position will be Professor Meigan Aronson.

Specific responsibilities will be (a) to synthesize novel topological materials in bulk form, and (b) to develop new devices that exploit the surface properties of these materials as prototypes for quantum computation operations, and (c) to carry out extensive characterization of the electrical properties of these materials and devices.

Applicants must have (i) a Ph.D. in Physics, and at least three years of experience relevant to the tasks described above (a longer postdoctoral record is preferred), (ii) a strong record of independent and collaborative research, as demonstrated by papers published in refereed journals of high standing, both as lead author and as co-author, (iii) a strong record of research in quantum materials (iv) demonstrated skill in fabrication techniques, (v) ability to carry out measurements of the electrical transport and other basic characteristics at dilution refrigerator temperatures, and in high magnetic fields, and (vi) an outstanding record as a good team player and collaborator, as demonstrated by references.

All qualified persons are encouraged to apply. Applicants should complete the online application form . (please accept the security certificate) making sure to select the Research Associate, Experimental Condensed Matter Physics. This is a three-year position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Interested individuals are asked to submit a cover letter including a research statement and CV, along with the names and contact information for at least two professional references to jobs(at)physics.ubc.ca. Applications will be reviewed starting on June 20, 2018, and will continue until the position is filled.
