2012 Nobel Prize Winner David Wineland visited PHAS

Dr. David Wineland, 2012 Nobel Prize Winner, visited UBC Physics & Astronomy on November 22nd. Dr. Wineland (National Institute of Standards and Technology, NIST and University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, USA) receives the Nobel Prize in Physics this year "for ground-breaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulation of individual quantum systems" (Nobelprize.org).

Dr. Wineland presented during the department colloquium; his talk, "Superposition, entanglement, and raising Schrödinger’s cat," attracted a large crowd that took up the Hebb Theatre. After his talk, he stayed around to answer questions from enthusiastic Physics & Astronomy students.
